Dr. Graham Trope

Dr. Graham E. Trope is Professor Emeritus, University of Toronto. He retired from clinical practice in 2022. Prior to that he directed the Glaucoma Service at University Health Network.

He is past Chairman of Ophthalmology at the University of Toronto and past Ophthalmologist in Chief at University Health Network.

Prior to his retirement he was involved in Glaucoma Research teaching and patient care for 42 years. He is the Founder of the Glaucoma Research Society of Canada where he remains on the board as director of the Scientific Advisory Committee.

Dr. Trope published over 240 scientific articles and had peer-reviewed research funding for most of his clinical research career. He published two books: Glaucoma, A Patient’s Guide to the Disease and Glaucoma Surgery.

He is the past Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology.

In 2000/1 He received the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons Council Award for his contributions to patient care and in 2013 was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal for his contribution to Ophthalmology.

In 2018 he was presented a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Canadian, Ophthalmological society and the President’s Award from the Canadian Glaucoma Society for “a career of excellence in patient care and research”. He was appointed Hon. President of the International Association of Glaucoma Surgeons in Montreal in 2018.

Dr. Trope trained 51 glaucoma specialists (fellows) from all parts of Canada and the world and is a past examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
