Dr. Graham Trope

Dr. Graham E. Trope is Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Toronto. He has directed the Glaucoma Service at University Health Network since 1984.

He is the past Chairman of Ophthalmology at the University of Toronto and past Ophthalmologist in Chief at University Health Network.

Dr. Trope has published over 200 scientific articles and has had peer-reviewed research funding as a PI or co-PI for most of his career.

He has been involved in Glaucoma Research and Treatment for over 30 years and is the Founder and Scientific Director of the Glaucoma Research Society of Canada.

He is the past Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology. He has received the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons Council Award for his contributions to patient care.

He was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal for his contribution to Ophthalmology and in 2018 he received a Life Time Achievement Award from the Canadian Ophthalmological Society. In 2018 he was given the President’s Award from the Canadian Glaucoma Society for ”a career of excellence in patient care and research”. He was appointed Hon President of the International Association of Glaucoma Surgeons in Montreal in 2018.

Dr. Trope has trained 51 glaucoma fellows from all parts of Canada and the world and is a past examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

He has published two books, Glaucoma, A Patient’s Guide to the Disease and Glaucoma Surgery.
